Lots of behind the scenes stuff is going on today!

First up, the site has been updated so that the dynamic PHP-based pages are served up as static html files to most users. This should result in noticeably faster load times for users, and less strain on our server.

In other news, we’ve added a CAPTCHA to the new user registration page to help block spam user accounts from being created by bots.

We’ve also limited the times a user can incorrectly enter their password when logging in to 10. If they exceed this number their account will be locked, and they can request to be emailed a temporary replacement password. This should prevent brute force attempts to gain access to a user’s account, and result in more secure accounts for our users.

Currently anyone can set up a user account for this site by visiting http://atomicentertainmentindustries.com/wp-login.php?action=register, but it may not be this way forever.
At this point it’s unclear whether or not spam account creation will become a problem as the site grows. If it does, account creation may be disabled, which means that you’ll need to contact an administrator, such as Darren Olah, to create an account for you if you ever want one.

It’s for this reason that making an account now is a good idea. We encourage you to make one, especially if you’re an active member of AEI, would like to become a member or are involved in official AEI projects. In fact, some users may be given authoring permission to write new posts, assuming they have unique, high-quality content to contribute. So don’t delay, register away!

A WordPress plugin called “Add Link to Facebook” has just been set up on the AEI site. This will allow any new posts on this site to be automatically be posted to the AEI page on Facebook.
This should ensure that many people will be aware when new content that interests them is added!

In order to hopefully earn enough to cover the running costs of this site, we’re now using Google AdSense ads.

If you see an ad that you are legitimately interested in, we do encourage you to click it, and check it out. Don’t just spam clicks for no reason, because that doesn’t actually earn us anything. Clicks are verified for accuracy before any payment.

If you have any suggestions or comments regarding these ads, let us know.

It seems I’ve isolated the reason why the site keeps breaking. (At last!)
Activating XML-RPC causes a pretty severe issue that prevents the site from loading any content.
I guess I’ll have to remember never to turn that on.

EDIT: Turns out this wasn’t actually the problem. It was an issue with the theme. Good to know.

We’re now using WordPress for the Atomic Entertainment Industries site!

If you really want, you can still see the old site’s homepage at the link below. (Be aware significant changes have been made, causing nearly all links to break. You’ve been warned.)
